About AAPT
On January 17, 1924 a small group of people met in Chicago, Illinois, and from this meeting a decision was reached to establish an Association for the consideration of the technology of asphalt paving. Since then, the Association of Asphalt Paving Technologists has grown in membership from its original 19 charter members to its present roster of over 800 residing in every continent in the world. Its Journal, first published in 1928, now consists of 74 volumes and constitutes a widely referenced and most prestigious source of literature in the field of asphalt paving technology. The 3-day annual technical meeting of AAPT is held in the spring every year, and includes asphalt related technical sessions, symposium, and workshops.
The main objectives of AAPT are as follows:
  • To advance asphalt paving technology.
  • To encourage communication among those charged with technical responsibility for the production and laying of asphalt pavements, with production of materials or with construction or construction equipment.
  • To serve as a central point for exchange of ideas related to the technology of asphalt paving.
  • To conduct, encourage and collate research in the asphalt paving industry.
